Very few people know that in Guanacaste, even without the dramatic high altitudes that regions like Tarrazú are famous for, coffee is also cultivated and harvested.
When most travelers think of coffee in Costa Rica, they imagine misty mountains and cool highland farms. But here in Guanacaste, coffee grows in its own unique conditions shaped by sunshine, volcanic soil, and seasonal rains. It may not have the same elevation profile as other regions, yet it carries character, history, and pride.
In Costa Rica, coffee is everywhere.
But very few travelers experience it the way we do at No Limit Adventures.
Our From Bean to Cup experience is not a commercial tour. It is not a large group visit to a polished attraction. It is a personal invitation into a private farm, owned and worked by a local coffee producer who welcomes our travelers the way he would welcome a friend.
This is where coffee becomes human.

A Morning on a Private Farm
The experience begins at a small, family owned finca tucked into the Costa Rican countryside. When you arrive, you are not greeted at a reception desk. You are welcomed into someone’s home.
You sit at his table. Share stories. Drink freshly brewed coffee grown just steps away from where you are seated.
From there, you walk the land together.
The farm is more than coffee. Along the paths between coffee plants, you will find fruit trees, mango, citrus, banana depending on the season, along with other crops that reflect the diversity of Costa Rican agriculture. It is a living ecosystem, not a monoculture plantation.
As you walk through the coffee fields, your host explains how altitude, rainfall, soil, and harvest timing shape the beans long before they ever reach a roaster. You see the cherries on the branch. You understand the rhythm of the harvest. You feel the scale, intimate, hands on, real.
Lunch Like a Local
One of the most special moments of this experience is sharing a traditional meal inside the farmer’s home.
Prepared with local ingredients, many grown on the property, the meal is simple, authentic, and deeply personal. There is no staged performance. Just genuine hospitality.
You are not treated like a tourist. You are treated like a guest.
And that changes everything.

From Farm to Beneficio: Understanding the Full Process
After time on the finca, the journey continues to a real working beneficio, a coffee mill where the transformation from cherry to export ready bean takes place.
This is where the experience earns its name: From Bean to Cup.
Inside the mill, you follow every stage of the process:
-
Pulping and washing
-
Fermentation techniques
-
Drying patios and mechanical dryers
-
Sorting and grading
-
Roasting fundamentals
You begin to see how decisions at every step influence flavor, body, and aroma. The connection between the fruit you saw on the branch and the coffee in your cup becomes clear.
This is not a simplified overview. It is a comprehensive look at Costa Rica’s coffee craft, from small scale farming to professional processing.
